What is memegine.com?
Memegine is a full-text search engine for internet memes. It allows you to search through hundreds of thousands of memes and matches the ones where the text in the picture is the most relevant to your search query.
Where are the memes from?
Every hour or so, a program runs to scout the internet for new memes, analyze them, and feed the results to the engine for indexing.
As of today, the main data sources for this program are submissions
in the subreddits: /r/memes, /r/bonehurtingjuice, /r/dankmemes,
/r/me_irl, /r/trippinthroughtime, /r/2meirl4meirl, /r/starterpacks/,
/r/wholesomememes. More data-sources are to be added shortly.
If you have an idea for a new data-source (or a secret memes stash),
don't hesitate to reach out!
How many memes are added every day?
As of today, approximately 10,000 new memes are added every day from all sources combined.
Who is behind it?
Memegine.com is a weekend project by Théo Champion (@deletethistheo).
Is this project open-source?
No. At least not yet! This project involves quite a lot of interconnecting parts with external dependencies and I haven't had the time to look into how to package this nicely in an open-source project yet. However, if in the meantime you are interested in having a look under the hood or contribute to the project, feel free to reach out to me on github@theochampion.
